Director of Technology

Job Description:

The Director of Technology plays the key leadership role related to the technological and creative vision of the company including overseeing client projects, internal R&D and operations. You will define the operational strategy for the technology group and have authority to define the skills and resources required to deliver the strategy. You will work closely with your team, the other department managers, and executive management to define our overall creative and technical vision, as well as direct planning, production and deployment of all our projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

Set the vision and standards of our technical approach; focus technical strategy and implementation plans for business development and projects in production; cultivate and manage client relationships; regularly supervise in-house and out-of-house technical resources; steward technical vendor relationships; be the voice and public face of Funny Garbage in the technology community and new media professionals outside the company.

Related responsibilities:

Staffing, team education and mentorship; cross-departmental communication and partnership; participation in business development including attending meetings, contributing to proposals, scoping, budgeting and resource estimation; oversight of production standards, best practices, and process; participation in the overarching production management and resourcing process; and participation in the management of our overall internal IT strategy.

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years developing and leading large-scale technology engagements involving custom development and complex integration using both open source and enterprise level technologies
  • Minimum 3 years managing a team of technologists in an interactive agency environment
  • Proven ability as a technology leader in a management role responsible for small technology teams both in-house and using outsourcing
  • Proven successes implementing new processes and best practice approaches in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Expert level knowledge of a wide-array of programming languages such as Java and PHP, Perl, SQL, Flash/Flex, Ruby-on-Rails.NET, etc. and the ability to propose alternative solutions and cost-benefit analysis based on these technologies
  • Expert level knowledge of Open Source movement, particularly Drupal
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with object-oriented design concepts, various frameworks, data storage implementations and enterprise design patterns
  • Hands-on experience working with enterprise level CMS systems, ecommerce platforms and enterprise search solutions
  • Advanced knowledge of web 2.0 technologies including social network and blog platforms, widget development, mobile and emerging digital interfaces
  • Strong experience with development methodologies from traditional waterfall to agile and scrum approaches
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and approaches
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills and experience presenting to client stakeholders
  • Technical degree preferred
