Funny Garbage: 10 Years of Making the Web Worth Watching

Rose Center for Earth and Space Kiosks

American Museum of Natural History

Project Overview

If space truly is the final frontier, if would probably be wise for future homesteaders to have an idea of what they’re getting into before rocketing off to stake their claims. So in the spirit of giving our future explores a leg up, Funny Garbage worked closely with the museum’s curators and astronomers to design kiosks that presented the complexity of astrophysics in a way that was both engaging and easy to navigate across a wide and diverse audience range.

By utilizing Macromedia’s Director 8, we were able to construct a model for the formation of the universe, stars and planets. We then built it in After Effects to give a “real world” quality to the graphics. Through a combination of high-end technology, design and detailed information architecture we were able to represent 13 billion years of cosmic history in a logical and appealing way.
