Riot Media approached Funny Garbage in the winter of 2005 to be its creative partner in the development of a web site to launch its new media company and lifestyle brand. Dedicated to the tween boy market, the Riot brand is guided by an on-going original Riot adventure featuring underdog tween boy heroes and Riot the Chimp defending the home turf against an evil, sinister circus.
The goal was to build a site that contains enough outrageous and addictive content to establish the identity of the new brand, introduce the Riot backstory, attract and retain a large database of active users, and encourage funding for Riot’s more ambitious longterm goals. Riot Media also plans to follow up the launch of the site with a Riot magazine, Riot comic books, a collectible card game, and electronic games.
Building on our experience creating web sites for children‘s properties such as Noggin/The N and Cartoon Network, FG‘s graphic designers, information architects and animators seamlessly weaved together Riot’s existing promotional assets with original content, games and activities to create a modular design that will accommodate the site‘s content as it evolves.
The overall user experience is driven by an innovative and dynamic Flash interface that randomly loads different interactive animations each time a user visits the page. The Flash module also doubles as a second form of navigation that allows Riot to feature content from other areas of the site on the homepage. In addition, our game developers, animators and sound designers combined to create raucous and addictive viral activities that have contributed to high “stickiness” and return user rates.
