Funny Garbage: 10 Years of Making the Web Worth Watching

FileUnder

Funny Garbage Original Properties

Project Overview

Music and movies entertain and uplift. They are vibrant and inspirational, vital and evocative. So why should interacting with your personal digital media collection be as dreary as reading a spreadsheet*?!

In early 2000, Funny Garbage conceived and prototyped FileUnder, a digital media storage application that fully immerses the user in an interactive three-dimensional graphic landscape and navigation system.  Flying through a virtual skyline, zooming past towers of album covers, movie posters and photos, the task of accessing your media files has itself become entertainment.

Users can gain a unique perspective of their own collections as FileUnder profiles their personal libraries against a larger database of existing media.  Through this contextual frame, collectors on the hunt can relate, locate and purchase files to complete their canon.

FileUnder also mixes elements of social networking with its advanced storage and indexing options. Users can share playlists, relate to others with similar visual or melodic inclinations and even chat through an integrated messaging system, opening up their grooves to as large, or small, a community as they wish.

* No offense to those out there that really, really enjoy spreadsheets.
